A Typical Day in Our Classroom

Students begin to arrive at 8:30am. As they enter the classroom they put any backpacks, jackets, or show and tell items in their cubbie. Then it's off to work they go. By this time in the year the students have had many lessons on the materials and are able to choose whatever work they would like to do as long as they have had a lesson on it. We have worktime until about 11:00am, during this time I am able to give new lessons to the children as well as re-present lessons as needed. Most lessons are given on an individual basis however, there are some group lessons as well. By having this un-interrupted work cycle, the students are able to build their concentration as they work on materials of their choosing for as long as they wish (as long as they are making appropriate choices, concentrating, and keeping busy, otherwise I then get to redirect them to a more appropriate work:)

At about 9:30 I set up snack at a table for 2 and the child that brought snack is able to choose a friend to have snack with them, while the rest of the class continues to work. As each child finishes snack they leave the table clean for another student to have snack. The children may choose to have snack when they see that a chair at the snack table is available. Snack is left out until every child has had a chance to eat snack, usually thats about 10:30.

About 11:00 I play the song Cannon in D on the ipod, this is the clue that it's time to finish the work you are doing, put it away, and join us in the group area.

Group time consists of our "Good Morning" song, Calendar, Pledge of Allegiance, songs, story, group lesson, or game to reinforce the theme of the month or lessons being taught.

We begin to gather our things and get ready to go home about 11:25am.

There will also be information for parents regarding drop off and pick up procedures, suggestions if you anticipate that there maybe some separation anxiety, snack calendars, school calendars, "Montessori in the home" handouts etc. I am looking forward to seeing everyone on Friday:)

Montessori Munch and Mingle-Date Change

Due to a delay in the material order, we have changed this event to Thursday, July 26, 2012...same times.  We apologize for the inconvenience!

Come discover the beauty of Montessori and what it has to offer your child during those important preschool years. We will be having an informational "Munch and Mingle" for parents (no children please, their "Meet the Teacher Day" will be in August) on Thursday, July 26th.  In hopes of accommodating more of you we are offering a morning session at 10am and an evening session at 6:30pm. You will have the opportunity to see our Montessori Classroom, meet the teacher, attend a presentation, and ask any questions you may have.  These are some of the topics that will be addressed:

*The importance of education and the educational environment for children ages 2 1/2-6yrs old
*Why our program is a 4 day school week
*How Montessori leads children to develop responsibility, Independence, self esteem, and a genuine love of learning.
*Demonstrations of  Montessori "works" ("work" is what we call the activities in a Montessori Classroom)

We are looking forward to meeting all of you and hope you will be able to come and enjoy some light refreshments while learning more about the exciting world of Montessori.  Reserve your spot by sending an email to Ali Lawson at creeksidemontessori2012@gmail.com  Please include your name, how many adults will be attending, the age of your child(ren), and the time you would like to attend. If these times do not work for you please contact us and we can set up a time that does.

Thank You,
